Lifelong success depends on a child's access to basic things like health care, nutrition and family support right from the beginning. That's why Success By 6 is based on the premise that lifelong success rests on what happens to children between the time of conception and age six. Launched in 1994 by the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, Success By 6 has created change in essential areas such as prenatal health and early childhood education/child care. The main goals of the program are to:

  • Increase quality of childcare centers and family childcare providers
  • Heighten awareness about the problems facing children and families

In 1999, Success By 6 published "Embracing the Needs of Children and Families," a resource guide for workplace issues. The free guide provides examples and ideas for implementing successful family workplace policies and programs.  Click here to download a copy.

The Quality Initiative for Child Care Centers, Family & Group Family Providers

The Quality Initiative offers child care centers, family, and group family centers technical assistance and support towards program improvement using Harms and Clifford Environmental Rating Scales. Participation in the project is an excellent way for providers to improve the quality of care they provide to their children and families. Research proves that high quality early care and education environments are crucial to helping children reach their highest potential. If you are interested in finding out more about how you might participate please contact Joneen Corrao at joneen.corrao@uwbec.org or call 887-2630.
