INCOME
Helping families meet their basic needs of food, shelter and clothing is just the tip of the iceberg of United Way's work in income. We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Erie County has access to the tools they need to build a stable financial future - from job training to financial education to ways to build their assets.
Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (C A S H), a United Way initiative, helps increase the financial stability of hardworking families through free tax preparation, improving financial literacy, and providing opportunities for affordable housing and other asset development. Over the past 3 years, nearly 39,000 families have accessed almost $40 million in tax refunds and credits through the Free Tax Preparation program. Every dollar of those refunds and credits goes back into the pockets of people in our community.
Additional programs include improving literacy and employment skills; providing support for job searches; and avoiding eviction and foreclosure.
