United Way Matters for Youth

Did You Know...
  • One in 3 high schoolers won't graduate with their classmates.
  • Over a lifetime, a non-high school graduate will earn $ 200,000 less than a graduate.
  • Only 57% of 8th graders in Erie County scored at or above grade level in English Language Arts.

You and United Way make a difference!

United Way is working to make sure that all youth in Erie County have the support they need to graduate from high school.

Your contribution to United Way is an investment in Erie County's youth. No organization has its finger on the pulse of our critical needs like United Way. We collaborate with dozens of local partners to make the biggest possible impact where it's most needed.

Through Closing the Gap in Student Performance, United Way is working in 6 Buffalo Public Schools to help kids and their families address the issues that prevent them from being successful in school. Throughout Erie County, United Way funds services that help to ensure that all our youth develop into strong, successful adults.

United Way Matters for Youth
  • Closing the Gap provided services to nearly 1,000 students in 6 Buffalo Public Schools last year.
  • At Harvey Austin School #97, a Closing the Gap school, 8th grade graduation rates increased from 63% to 85%.
  • Across Erie County, 16,000 youth are developing the qualities they need to succeed in school and later in life through programs supported by United Way.
