BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Join United Way as we celebrate our local Black community
Black History Month is a time to celebrate influential leaders and impactful moments of the past. But celebrating Black history is not enough. The work of rebuilding an equitable and more resilient Buffalo & Erie County is not done.
That's why this Black History Month, United Way is spotlighting Black-led and Black-owned organizations whose partnerships continue to advance the education, health, and financial well-being of our community. And we’re inviting you to get involved.
A quality education begins with reading. When children are able to read to learn, they imagine more richly, develop a stronger vocabulary and engage in critical thinking. For United Way, increasing access to books is one way we help set kids up for future success.
United Way of Buffalo & Erie County has partnered with Juneteenth and Zawadi Books to host a Black History Month book drive. All donated books will be distributed at the 2022 Juneteenth Festival, June 19-20, at MLK Park.
Here’s how you can help:
Use our specially curated list to purchase books from your favorite retailer. Looking to shop local? All titles are available from Zawadi Books, 1382 Jefferson Ave, Buffalo, NY 14208. Shop in-store Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 12 – 4 p.m. or by phone at 716-903-6740. DOWNLOAD THE LIST.
