United Way of Buffalo & Erie County celebrates Wegmans record-breaking campaign

Over one million dollar gift will help WNY communities thrive

BUFFALO, NY, December 8, 2025 – United Way of Buffalo & Erie County wants to thank Wegmans employees for raising more than $1.1 million through its 2025 United Way campaign. The year-long campaign takes place annually and raises money through employee contributions, special events, and a scanning campaign (which raised over $255,000) to support the programs and services of United Way.

“I simply can’t say it enough how grateful we are for our long-time partnership with Wegmans and the incredible support they provide year after year,” said Trina Burruss, President and CEO, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. “Raising more than one million dollars is no small feat. On behalf of everyone at United Way I want to extend a huge thank you to every employee at Wegmans who contributed their time, money, and talent to this amazing campaign. Our community is a better place because of partnerships like the one we have with Wegmans.”

In addition to the annual campaign, Wegmans also supports the United Way through special events like their annual Summer Celebration Golf Outing, a kickball tournament, bingo, and Day of Caring, to name a few. As a long-time supporter, Wegmans employees help United Way by mentoring other employer groups who are new to running a campaign or are interested in volunteerism.

“At Wegmans, we’re grateful for our longstanding partnership with our United Way agencies, and so proud of the hard work of our employees and help from our customers in support of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County”, said Patty Kaminski, SVP, Wegmans Buffalo Division Manager and United Way board member. “We know our community needs are great, and we invite the business community to join us in being an agent of positive change through the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County.”

This year United Way ran over 500 campaigns at a variety of employers across Buffalo and Erie County. Workplace campaigns remain an important component of United Way’s year-long fundraising initiatives. Community need is increasing with 42% of people in Buffalo and Erie County making up the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. Despite working hard, this group is stuck in a cycle of financial hardship. “These households are who our programs are focused on and we are fortunate to have a caring and giving community to support our work,” said Burruss.
