The Impact
During the December 21 to 26, 2022 winter storm Elliott, thousands of individuals and families were impacted, resulting in 46 deaths in Buffalo and Erie County. United Way’s 211WNY program was used in partnership with Erie County to assess immediate needs of citizens who called for help. Callers were provided information on shelters, food sources, and emergency response efforts. Additionally, the data collected from community voices drove the decision on how best to respond to the recovery efforts United Way was involved in, particularly with providing direct funds to families through the Community Resilience Fund.
