Description
United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, as the administrator and fiscal management provider for the Erie County Department of Social Services Work Participation Program (UW Works), disburses funds to identified service providers including non-profit community agencies, educational providers and an employment agency that meets the program priorities directed towards the achievement of workforce participation enhancements. Service providers enter into a program funding contract agreement with United Way of Buffalo & Erie County for fund reimbursements and a Worksite Sponsor Agreement with the Erie County Department of Social Services.
UWBEC has a proven track record of administering a contract with ECDSS to engage in a partnership to provide diversified work study and employment and training services to individuals receiving TANF benefits. This contract arrangement has been in place between UWBEC and ECDSS since 2007.
The Impact
Service recipients will be approximately 500 TANF recipients who must satisfy work experience requirements in accordance with Federal mandates. Through this program, clients will be engaged in a comprehensive approach to developing self-sufficiency. Activities will focus on education (basic, remedial, and financial, as necessary), vocational/career exploration, and work experience, with additional supportive services provided as necessary. This combination of education, training and work experience will support clients’ ability to develop and maintain financial stability and personal and professional success over the long term.
