Donate with stocks and securities

If you have appreciated stocks, transferring them directly to United Way of Buffalo & Erie County is a powerful way to make a greater impact on our community. To transfer stock, you can also send a letter to your broker or financial consultant to authorize the transfer of stock as a contribution to United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. 


Please include the following details in your letter:

Number of shares
Expected date of transfer
Your mailing address
Your work and home phone number

Give to us through your Donor Advised Fund 

United Way of Buffalo & Erie County accepts donations from Donor Advised funds through many organizations. Your financial adviser can help you distribute funds. 

If you currently have a donor-advised fund through Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or BNY Mellon Charitable, you may use DAFDirect. Your financial adviser can also help you distribute funds.


Donate easily through your IRA Charitable Rollover

Making a gift to United Way can be as simple as directing a tax-free transfer from your IRA. If you’re 70 ½ or older making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a great option to lower your income taxes while doing good for others right here in Buffalo & Erie County. QCD’s count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (up to $100,000), effectively lower your adjusted gross income and bring about many tax benefits.
