Buffalo Prepares

Prepare Today. Be Ready Tomorrow.

Disasters can happen without warning. Buffalo Prepares is helping individuals and families across Erie County take steps today to be ready for emergencies tomorrow.

United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, with support from Verizon and United Way Worldwide, is strengthening disaster preparedness and community resilience throughout Erie County.

Through a $250,000 Disaster Resilience Grant, United Way has provided free disaster preparedness resources, distributed 3,800 Disaster Resilience Kits and hosted preparedness workshops designed to give residents practical tools and information to prepare for emergencies.

What We Did

We distributed 3,800 free Disaster Resilience Kits to help Erie County residents prepare for emergencies.

Kits include essential preparedness supplies such as:

  • Emergency radio
  • Blanket
  • Multi-tool
  • Reflective tape
  • Other emergency preparedness resources

Residents also receive information about local resources, including the new 211 WNY app, which connects individuals and families with health and human services 24 hours a day. Build your kits – click here to view all the items

Free Disaster Preparedness Workshops

Knowledge is one of the most important tools you can have in an emergency.
Throughout September and October, we hosted free preparedness workshops across Erie County to help residents:
  • Create an emergency plan
  • Learn what to include in an emergency kit
  • Understand how to use preparedness supplies
  • Prepare for weather-related emergencies and other disasters
  • Identify local resources and sources of assistance
  • Take practical steps to protect themselves, their families and their communities
Workshops were being offered in partnership with community organizations and preparedness experts, including the American Red Cross.
